  SITE DESIGN - VISIONS

2023

This was a work developed between two subjects – Project and Digital Media Design – in the final year of the Communication Design bachelor's degree.

The objective was to create a website based on the exhibition Drifts and Creatures, which took place at the Porto Municipal Gallery. An exhibition that included from visual artists to photographers. From the exhibition onwards, our work had to be developed based on a concept, works, or artists featured in it.

After visiting the exhibition and researching more about the authors and their work displayed there, the whole concept for the website was about to start.

My work

Based on an analysis of the work of the participants in Drifts and Creatures, my conceptual theme settled on introspective and reflective photographers featured in the exhibition. These were the authors I selected to be included on the website: Dinis Santos; Joana Pimentel; Maria Oliveira; Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela; Odair Monteiro; Rita Magalhães.

Values such as mystery, introspective character and the idea of the distant are then established in the site's ambiance, in line with the work of the selected photographers, who often work on scenes of suspense or self-reflection. These concepts are explored not only in the website's content itself, but also in the background, in the arrangement of the images (large) and text (small), as well as in the color palette – dark colors predominate, evoking mystery and distance.

Hovering in a distant, hazy world that suggests something undefined and surreal, it leaves us to decide what is portrayed.
The background consists of an overlay of some of the works featured on the site, in a "worn" and hazy manner, with the purpose of highlighting the all-important term: introspection – a guiding word for all the website and evident in the chosen works of the artists.

Here you can find the link to the site itself – Visions

Down here there's a demonstration video that navigates through the whole website.
