VESTIR A PRIMAVERA
Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora – 2025
Organized by the Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora theater company, Vestir a Primavera (Dress the Spring) project is held annually to celebrate the arrival of the season, also commemorating World Puppetry Day and World Theater Day. Being developed in the municipality of Gondomar, involves its community in the creative process, from kids to adults. The 2025's edition culminated in a theater play which story focused in the Porto's Douro river, called Margens.

"Margens is a community creation project within the Vestir a Primavera initiative, developed by the Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora company in partnership with the Municipality of Gondomar since 2016. This project focuses on the region's identity and is inspired by the legend of the creation of the Douro River, deeply connected to the natural landscape of the riverbanks. The legend serves as the thematic basis for artistic exploration and community involvement in the creation of the puppet theater show.
The development of Margens includes a collaboration with local schools, where students engage in the creation of puppets using sustainable materials. These puppets are designed to represent fish, which embody the spirit of the river, drawing inspiration from the region's rich cultural heritage. This process not only fosters creativity and technical skills, but also encourages an appreciation for the environment and the historical narratives that shape local identity.
It also involves intensive work with members of the Associação Social de Silveirinhos, who are part of the show and are agents of this collective creation. Through their participation, Members of the Association gain valuable experience in theater, puppetry, and performance art, while strengthening their connection to the community and their cultural roots.
Working with diverse artists and the community reinforces the power of artistic expression to promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences. The project employs a multidisciplinary approach, combining elements of puppetry, manipulation, and performance. It provides a unique platform for engaging in critical thinking, debate, and artistic expression, while deepening their understanding of traditions.

"Margens é um projeto de criação comunitária inserido na iniciativa Vestir a Primavera, desenvolvida pela companhia Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora em parceria com o Município de Gondomar desde 2016. Este projeto centra-se na identidade da região e inspira-se na lenda da criação do rio Douro, profundamente ligada à paisagem natural das margens do rio. A lenda serve de base temática para a exploração artística e o envolvimento da comunidade na criação do espetáculo de teatro de marionetas.
O desenvolvimento de Margens inclui uma colaboração com escolas locais, onde os alunos se envolvem na criação de marionetas utilizando materiais sustentáveis. Estas marionetas são concebidas para representar peixes, que encarnam o espírito do rio, inspirando-se no rico património cultural da região. Este processo não só fomenta a criatividade e as competências técnicas, como também incentiva a apreciação do ambiente e das narrativas históricas que moldam a identidade local.
Também dele faz parte um trabalho intenso com membros da Associação Social de Silveirinhos que integram o espetáculo, sendo agentes desta criação coletiva. Através da sua participação, os membros da Associação adquirem uma experiência valiosa no domínio do teatro, das marionetas e da arte performativa, ao mesmo tempo que reforçam a sua ligação à comunidade e às suas raízes culturais.
O trabalho com diversos artistas e a comunidade reforça o poder da expressão artística para promover a partilha de conhecimentos e experiências. O projeto emprega uma abordagem multidisciplinar, combinando elementos da área da criação de marionetas, manipulação e interpretação. Proporciona uma plataforma única para se envolverem no pensamento crítico, no debate e na expressão artística, ao mesmo tempo que aprofundam a sua compreensão das tradições.
O envolvimento de diferentes grupos etários e setores da comunidade em Margens promove a coesão social e o intercâmbio intergeracional."
