TONAL AREA MODELING - MIXED
2021 • Tonal Area Modeling | ESAD
Modeling by tonal area with a graphite pencil is one of the first things we do in drawing when we are younger.
While in the first college year at ESAD, each work here was made with graphite, some of them also make use of other techniques, but the tonal area modeling is there in all 6 drawings.
Most of them are made with a reference picture, as the first one, my favourite from this collection. It was given to us a photograph of a crazy man at a madhouse, and we had to draw it, and then, by making a collage, something that could relate to the man.
My idea was to do three hands, two pointing to the crazy, in a way of judgement and the other one holding a pistol in his direction. The idea was to represent how society judges and positions aside all those who are "not normal".
The other works are more about sight drawing or made by looking at a reference picture.
Approach: Tonal Area Modeling
Media: Graphite Pencils, Ecoline & Collage
Format: A3 and the last two are A1
